    Seeking a Fire and Building Plan Review Official


    Pay is $20.00 per hour


    8:00-4:30, M-F  Downtown location


    • Interprets various fire and building codes, laws, rules and regulations and appropriately applies them
    • Reviews and releases submitted building plans, both site and in-plant constructions, for compliance with applicable state fire and building codes, laws, rules and regulations
    • Prepares and issues documentation for releases such as construction design releases, foundation, addenda, and request for additional information
    • Explains and interprets the various fire and building codes and their applicability to architects, engineers, building and fire officials, contractors, manufacturers, and/or property owners
    • Provides answers and customer support relating to technical questions on building rules and codes to staff, design professionals, contractors and members of the general public
    • Investigates and resolves complaints or refers complaints to appropriate level
    • Determines occupancy classification and types of construction
    • Exercises authority over incomplete and/or non-comforming plan submissions until required documents are received
    • Advises and coordinates and/or conducts training for local fire and building code enforcement officials
    • Provides recommendations for code changes
    • Prepares and submits technical reports regarding plan submissions, meetings, training, etc. and submits routine administrative reports such as itineraries and attendance
    • Keeps abreast of changes (new adoptions and amendments) in laws, codes, rules, regulations and procedures that relate to building projects in the state; attends training seminars as appropriate


    • High School Diploma and knowledge and skills acquired through a bachelor's degree in Architecture; Civil, Electrical, Fire Protection, Mechanical or Structural Engineering or Engineering Technology; Construction Management or Technology; or related area or comparable practical experience in building design, design review, construction or fire inspection, or construction supervision alone may substitute for degree;
    • Ability to obtain and hold an International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Certified Plans Examiner within 30 months of hire;
    • Specialized knowledge and ability to interpret the state's various adopted fire and building laws, codes, rules and regulations and apply them to plan review;
    • Working knowledge of construction and fire principles, practices and procedures;
