    Knowledge Services is looking for a Mirgration Architect for a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity with its client, the State of Indiana's Department of Environmental Management.  This position is located downtown Indianapolis and the incumbent resource will work 37.5 hours/week Monday-Friday.  This position is not open for C2C and candidates must be able to convert to full-time with the State of IN without condition or sponsorship (on W2).

    Responsibilities

    The purpose of this position is to directly support data migrations for new system implementations. This senior level position will direct data clean up initiatives as well as oversee and direct data quality work. Position will directly provide support on data architecture planning, design, and development. Other duties include consulting and assisting staff to determine problems and finding solutions, documenting and monitoring progress of the systems, following schedules, completing assigned tasks within determined deadlines related to agency data migration and architecture needs.

    Description of Duties

    • Develop migration scripts moving data from ‘legacy’ databases to new databases
    • Employ ETL tools like Altova Mapforce and other similar migration and mapping tools to improve efficiency, testing, and accuracy of data migrations
    • Develop complex queries and procedures using PL/SQL and Oracle SQL Developer and/or other ETL migration tools for migrations based on database schema specifications.
    • Work with Database Administrator (DBA) to optimize queries and migration scripts as needed;
    • Responsible for ETL development, data mapping, and data migration documentation including documentation of business processes and how data is stored for new and/or modified applications
    • Work with DBAs and Business Analysts (BAs) to formally document migration requirements and to review and ensure accuracy of migrations
    • Provide technical direction and guidance on data quality activities and may assist in determining and defining data quality and data standards
    • Assist in determining and defining data architecture agency wide to ensure data integration and interoperability between data sets to improve overall enterprise reporting ability
    • Work with DBAs to develop needed data marts, queries, views, and reporting tables as part of a larger reporting platform initiative
    • Provide technical support and direction for report development

    Qualifications

     

    Windows Environment (Advanced) – 10+ years’ experience

    • Complete Windows environment for desktop and server

    Microsoft Office (Advanced) – 10+ years’ experience

    • Advanced knowledge and experience using MS Access and MS excel as a both a data source for migrations and as a tool for assisting in data cleanup

    MS Development (Advanced) – 5+ years’ experience

    • Thorough experience and ability using mapping and migration tools like Altova MapForce or similar for ETL development
    • Advanced knowledge of information system design and new system design techniques including advanced knowledge of techniques, policies, standards and techniques used for application development is required
    • Experience with the Microsoft development stack including Visual Studio, .NET web and desktop development using C#, SQL Server, and SQL Server Reporting Services preferred
    • Experience developing and using XML and Web Services is preferred

    Data Visualization (Advanced) – 3+ years’ experience

    • Advanced knowledge of data visualization tools and techniques
    • Advanced knowledge and experience with data visualization approaches considering objectives, audience, and delivery
    • Experience with Tableau preferred

    Oracle Databases (Expert) – 7+ years’ experience

    • Thorough knowledge of data processing and database concepts; advanced development experience creating and using database objects in Oracle 11g and 12c specifically related to data migrations
    • Thorough knowledge and ability to analyze and understand entity relationship diagrams (ERDs) and metadata dictionaries for large complex datasets and schemas
    • Advanced experience and ability developing Oracle PL/SQL Packages for use in Oracle BI Publisher Reporting using RTF templates preferred

    SQL (Expert) – 7+ years’ experience

    • Advanced knowledge of SQL query optimization
    • Experience in developing ETLs, services, and migration applications for handling, transforming, and moving data for internal and external facing data is preferred
    • Thorough knowledge and ability to develop queries, procedures, and views for report development

    SDLC (Advanced) – 7+ years’ experience

    • Thorough knowledge of and experience in implementation of Systems Development Life Cycle is required

    Business Analysis (Advanced) – 5+ years’ experience

    • Thorough ability to perform advanced problem solving and analysis is required
    • Knowledge and ability to create and develop layout and report design based on purpose of report and audience
    • Advanced experience with requirements gathering with a focus on data migration

    Data Management (Expert) – 7 years’ experience

    • Thorough knowledge of enterprise data management and best practices

     

    Physical Requirements:

    • Job frequently requires sitting, handling objects with hands.
    • Job occasionally requires standing, walking, reaching, talking, hearing, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
    • Vision requirements:  Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
