    Our client is looking for a Registered Nurse in Madison, IN.


    Shifts Available:

    Evening: 4:00 PM – 12:15 AM
    Night: 12:00 AM – 8:15 AM

    Employee is assigned to the evening or night shift and functions as patient care coordinator for several clinical units.  Employee reports to, assists, and provides temporary back up for Charge Nurse Supervisor.  Coordinates evening or night shift operations to ensure continuity of care and progress toward patient treatment goals.



    • Utilizes nursing process in developing, providing and evaluating each patient's care and procedures and written nursing assessment.  Responds to observed or reported physical deviations or psychosocial problems.
    • Directs daily patient care assignments of unit staff, addresses short-term needs, and signs Assignment Sheet.
    • Demonstrates proficiency in phlebotomy.
    • Transcribes orders accurately and legibly.
    • Uses Quadramed and Med select when administering medication.
    • Administers medications accurately according to policy and procedure with safety precautions.
    • Assigns and supervises staff medication administration.
    • Directs program, assists parts of program implementation to unit staff as appropriate.  Sets goals and documents effectiveness of patient education, social skills training, health awareness, medical compliance.
    • Ensures the use of soft voice and respect for the patient, uses empathy, respect, genuineness and concreteness.
    • Verbal intervention based on understanding, using positive constructive choices for the patient, being compassionate, building self-confidence and self-esteem.
    • Expressing concern and caring, inspiring trust and hope, by accepting the patient where and how he is, being sensitive to boundaries and limitations, and the safety and comfort of the patient.
    • Assesses and intervenes with agitated psychotic, escalating patients with focus on patient and staff safety.  Uses restrictive measures appropriately.  Follows principles, policies, and procedures on restraint and seclusion.
    • Maintains skills in first aid and life-saving techniques.  Acts to relieve stress of staff/patient and stabilize milieu after crisis event.  Annual training in CPR and Bridge Building techniques.
    • Uses accepted therapeutic techniques and approaches in daily patient care.  Models and teaches appropriate staff/patient relationships.  Emphasizes individual respect.  Follow individual treatment plan consistently.  Adheres to patient rights.
    • Monitors and evaluates daily physical care.  Intervenes for deviations from normal.  Consistently observes and directs all regulations of infection control policies.  Concise, complete nursing entries/transfer notes.
    • Documents patient education on appropriate issues; e.g., infectious diseases, social skills, health teaching, and medications.
    • Provides unit education on program appropriate subjects at least 1 time per week and 1 time per weekend as assigned.
    • Attend team meetings as applicable.  Communicates team action to staff.  Supportive to new staff.  Participates in team building.  Facilitates clarification and problem-solving with inter-shift staff.
    • Serves as clinical supervisor and nursing team leader to attendants and LPNs.  Assures appropriate clinical policies are followed.  Identifies deviations and responds appropriately.  Communicates to, and advises, supervisor(s) and inter-shift nursing staff.
    • Oversees therapeutic milieu of unit and safety and comfort of patients; reports needs, etc.  Responds to housekeeping and maintenance needs.  Assures Division of Duties is done on shift.  Adheres to hospital practice on patient and staff rights, safety and sanitation.  Provides reports and information to management as appropriate and when requested.  Addresses all infractions and deviations that may impact patient care and unit milieu and reports to supervisor.
    • Participates in departmental education.  Provides unit education on program appropriate subjects as assigned.  Utilizes opportunities to review policies, procedures, discuss new medication, interpret treatment approaches etc. with staff.  Takes action to build staff esteem.
    • Fulfills all mandatory subjects, shows evidence of professional reading.  Completes study of all manuals and policies by expected date.
    • Accepts committee, task group, PI group assignments upon request.
    • Reads minutes and manuals as directed.  Submits validation statements by stated date.
    • Attends nurses' meetings.
    • Nursing process evident in clinical documentation.  Assesses and intervenes for any high risk potential.  Follows policies and procedures.  Opportunity to improve care is identified and action taken.  Follow-up reports/responses are returned prior to or on schedule given.  Inter-shift report.  Will collect data as requested.


    Six (6) months of professional experience working as a Registered Nurse (RN) in an institutional setting, or working with geriatric patients, psychiatric patients, or patients with developmental disabilities or a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college.

    Valid Registered Nurse License issued by the Indiana Health Professions Bureau required.
