Overview

Knowledge Services is looking for a Travel Health Educator for our client in Indianapolis, IN. This is a REMOTE position.  The Travel Health Educator will serve as a travel-health expert focused on infectious diseases. This person will build connections with internal and external stakeholders to target messaging to current travel-related concerns in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner. Deliverables may include travel-related fact sheets, website content, and other resources. This person will research and share best practices in communicating with international travelers with agency staff and stakeholders. 

 

Pay:  $23.00/hr

Shift:  M-F 8-5

Responsibilities

Travel Health Educator Responsibilties:

  • Develop travel-related fact sheets and other resources regarding safe and healthy travel. Focus will be placed on COVID-19 and other vaccine-preventable diseases. These will be translated into relevant target languages and disseminated.
  • Work with the agency Immunization Program, the Vaccine Preventable Disease team, the Zoonotic/Vectorborne Disease team, the Office of Minority Health, and the Refugee Health Coordinator to target messaging to current travel-related concerns in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.
  • Lead community outreach to university student health clinics, airports, immigrant community organizations, migrant health groups, and other populations more likely to travel internationally to share materials and build connections with the health department.
  • Design and update content for the agency website related to travel health.
  • Lead outreach to travel clinics on need educational materials, as well as maintain a list of travel health clinics in the state.
  • Maintain the list of Indiana Yellow Fever vaccine authorized providers.
  • Conduct pre-travel consultations with members of the public using the CDC Traveler’s Health Destinations page.
  • Develop a mechanism to disseminate travel-related health information quickly to stakeholders.
  • Research and share best practices in communicating with international travelers with agency staff and stakeholders.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Travel Health Educator Qualifications:

  

                   Education:

  • A master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., public health, biological sciences, or social sciences), OR
  • A doctoral-level degree in public health or other relevant field, OR
  • A graduate or professional degree in a health-related field (e.g., RN, MD/DO, DDS/DMD, DVM, PhD, RS) with specific health education training (e.g., MPH degree, CHES, etc.), OR
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and ≥ 2 years of relevant public health experience
