Seeking a Human Services Professional!


$20.00 per hour


The Human Service Professional for Adult Protective Services (APS) is responsible for assessing and evaluating the allegations of abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of individuals with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities between the ages of 18-59. The assessment and evaluation period includes determining risk factors and competencies as well as assessing the validity of allegations in determining whether they are substantiated per the WI Administrative Code Chapter 55.


  • Investigate complaints of abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation of individuals with disabilities ages 18-59 in emergency situations and take corrective action to coordinate with collateral contacts such as family members, case managers, lawyers, and Home visits are required.
  • Communicate with clients, family members, and other interested parties to gather social, functional, physical, and mental information for evaluation. When deemed appropriate make referrals to Publicly Funded Long-Term Care and/or other community
  • Determine if clients are in dangerous situations and if so remove them from homes and admit them into emergency living environments and/or other community services appropriate for their current Determine findings based on facts incapacitation, crisis, and danger.
  • Communicate with medical providers to arrange medical and psychiatric examinations or treatment for
  • Document case activities from the investigation and other interested parties and recommend next steps for client safety and well-being.
  • Prepare court documents and attend court hearings to testify, as make recommendations for case disposition.
  • Attends and participate in staff development programs to include in-service training, staff meetings, and professional
  • Submit mileage forms and timely case documentation in an electronic case management system, as
  • Present Adult Protective Services and Court Related Services materials at in-services for internal Milwaukee County Staff Members and external Community
  • Travel at least 50% of work time to client households and within the community


  • Must be a current resident of the State of Wisconsin
  • Current Wisconsin Driver's License and access to a reliable insured vehicle; both maintained throughout employment
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Social Work or in a closely related field is REQUIRED
  • At least one (1) year of experience working in Adult Protective Services case management or in a closely related direct service position is required
  • Proficient at using a personal computer and standard office equipment
  • Able and willing to travel to client households and within the community at least 50% of work time; will receive mileage reimbursement
