Knowledge Services is seeking an Environmental Camp Counselor for a contract role through the end of July with the City of Indianapolis Department of Parks and Recreation.
Environmental Camp Counselor Responsibilities:
• The City of Indianapolis is looking for two Environmental Camp Counselor resources to work with the Department of Parks and Recreation to work closely with management staff and campers. This person will be primarily on camp site(s) and periodically in the office and communicate via phone and email.
• Position is responsible for working closely with supervisors and campers, ranging in age of 6-12 years.
• This role will be primarily assisting management staff at park locations by providing support to supervisors and campers during arts and crafts activities and/or games, and assisting in signing in/out campers with parents.
• Resource will accompany supervisors and campers on field trips, 1-2 times a week.
• Resources will also assist supervisors in office on off weeks answering emails and conducting phone calls to parents and assist in coordinating/setting up field trips.
• Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills and proficiency in outlook email.
• Follows all Indy Parks and Recreation Seasonal Policies and Procedures. Supervises campers.
• Develops and maintains programming supplies, educational materials, biological and geological specimens
• Coordinates daily nature activities including hiking, crafts, and nature lessons.
• Implements daily attendance procedures, activities, and field trip schedule.
• Communicate with parents, counselors, and park staff .
Environmental Camp Counselor Required Skills:
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. (Education Verification will be run)
• Must be at least 18 years of and have 2-year experience working with youth in a supportive environment.
• Must have a current certification in CPR and First Aid prior to employment.
• Must have a valid Driver's License
Preferred:
• Proficient with utilizing Outlook Email
• Experience answering phone calls, professional emails
• Must have good communication and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of Indiana flora, fauna, ecosystems, and biological interactions and concepts strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree or working toward a degree in Interpretation, Recreation, Environmental Education, Education, or Natural Resources strongly preferred. Or 3-4 years of experience in Interpretation, Recreation, Environmental Education, Education, or Natural Resources
