Overview

Knowledge Services is currently looking for a Sports Summer Camp Counselor for the everyday operational tasks of the Summer Adventure Day Camp Program under the supervision of the Head Day Camp Counselor and the direction of the Park Manager/Sr. Coordinator.

 

This is a seasonal position expected to run from May 18, 2026 - July 24, 2026. 

Pay Rate: Starting at $14/hour 

Work Hours: 40 hour work week with availability between 7:30AM-6PM Monday-Friday. Occasional weekend availability may be required. 

Work Location: Indianapolis, IN - Thatcher Park, Broad Ripple Park, & Garfield Park

Responsibilities

  • Follows all Indy Parks and Recreation Seasonal Policies and Procedures.
  • Monitors and supervises of campers and volunteers.
  • Coordinates daily camp and parent communication.
  • Implements daily activities and schedules.
  • Supports campers in the camp or activities setting.
  • Supports and assists campers while in activities such as, games, arts & crafts.
  • This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in school or have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Should be at least 18 years of age and have at least 1 year experience working with youth in a supportive environment.
  • Must have current certification in CPR and First Aid prior to summer employment. If you are not already CPR and First Aid certified, the City of Indianapolis will help you gain certification. 
  • Must have good communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work daytime hours ranging from 7:30am to 6:00pm.
  • Prefer any bilingual skills particularly in speaking Spanish.
  • All applicants will be required to complete a background screening, motor vehicle record screening, drug screening, and have a valid drivers license. These screenings will be administered following an offer of employment. 

Independent Judgment

  • Follows the established policies and procedures of the department
  • Adheres to all rules and regulations.
  • Independent judgement may occur in decisions regarding day camp programs, activities, handling discipline problems, emergency situations and dealing with the public.

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily performed in an outdoor setting at a park site.
  • Working conditions include all outdoor weather and environmental conditions, traveling on buses, in-water activities (creek stomps, water balloons and spray pad).
  • Work is performed in the company of large numbers of children, adults and general park users.

Physical Requirements: 

Job frequently requires sitting, handling objects with hands. 

Job requires standing, walking, reaching, talking, hearing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
