This position is open for current Eligibility Specialists working in a Division of Family Resource Office.


The Eligibility Specialist (ES) is responsible for processing applications from Indiana residents who are requesting public assistance. The ES will be asked to gather data for all relevant assistance programs for the requesting residents. In order to processes the applications, the ES will obtain releases, collect medical records per Thornton guidelines, and perform social situation summaries of the individuals. They will be required to assist in the further processes of obtaining verification of income, assets, and other financial/legal documents. The ES will explain the regulations to applicants, and what meets program requirements. They will utilize automated programs that assist in determining eligibility for TANF, FS, Medicaid, and other state assistance programs. The ES must operate under accordance with the policies and procedures written in the Stead State Procedure Manual, and process any changes received on those guidelines.



  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree in one of the following areas strongly preferred:
    • Counseling
    • Social Services
    • Other field pertaining to public sector administration
  • Two years of experience within a social services environment, state or local government, or pertaining to employment/training programs. Other scenarios may be acceptable.
