Long term opportunity that will last through the end of June 2018 (potential for extension) to assist with the deployment, operations, maintenance, and development of systems and procedures.

  • Work with the Systems group and Information Security Officer to ensure systems follow established Department, State ISO, and industry standard practices;
  • Participate in technical research and development, as needed, for continued innovation of systems processes and procedures;
  • Assist in the planning, design, documentation, and deployment of three-tiered systems security architecture for all ITS systems, statewide;
  • Troubleshoot and repair any hardware or software failures to the ITS systems that may come up;
  • Develop and maintain ITS Systems installation and configuration procedures;
  • Work closely with the IT Systems Group to plan, schedule, notify users; both internal and external, and apply patches to systems as required;
  • Work closely with personnel to test, deploy, and maintain new ITS systems;
  • Work closely with the personnel to maintain current systems;
  • Work within an Agile project management environment;
  • Audit all ITS Systems to include the Active Directory controllers for adherence to established Department and industry standards for the efficient and secure administration of these systems;
  • Audit all ITS Systems and compile a list of hardware and/or software that needs to be upgraded and/or replaced;
  • Audit all ITS Systems and compile a list of recurring software requirements of the systems;
  • Monitor all ITS Systems for availability, usability, security and provide recommendations to for upgrades or enhancements;
  • Complete assigned work according to the specifications and standards set by the State;
  • Work on site at the facility in Carson City, Nevada; and
  • Travel around the State may be required to perform or assist with the installation, removal, upgrade or remediation of ITS network assets, to include working in the roadside ITS cabinets, fiber huts, mountaintop communication sites, and various other State or local agency locations.
  • Consultants must provide and assist with the following activities based on the agreed upon project plan/schedule.
    • Complete work and project tasks assigned by ITS system/network supervisor on a mutually agreed deadline;
    • Consultants must be able to work in an Agile Project Management environment. Routine reporting will include but is not limited to the methods define below as part of the Agile process and documented using Team Foundation Server Software or other methods mutually agreed upon:
    • Agile is a philosophy for incremental product development based on a shared set of principles. These principles promote teamwork, collaboration, and adaptability throughout the lifecycle of product development.  The contractor will support these principles by participating in a team environment, maintaining a supportive attitude, working well with staff and contractors, flexibility to adapt to changes;
    • Consultants are expected to participate in an Agile development process, specifically Scrum for most of the work. This includes participation in all Scrum activities, including but not limited to: Daily Standup meetings, Sprint Planning Meetings, Sprint Review meetings, and Sprint Retrospective meetings. Excellent verbal and written communication is expected and required to maintain the work flow; and
    • The Scrum process requires individuals to be responsible for completing work timely, verbally reporting daily activities and impediments to the team. The ability to recommend solutions to impediments is expected, and completed work must be updated in the project management software.
  • Bi-weekly status reports to include, but not be limited to:
    • Overall completion status of the project in terms of the approved project plan and schedule;
    • Problems that were encountered and proposed/actual resolutions;
    • Issues that need to be addressed;
    • Accomplishments during the period; and
    • Activities to be accomplished during the next reporting period.


Required Skills:

·         Have experience and be proficient in the design, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting and deployment of sever operation systems, Active Directory/LDAP user and group administration, server and PC hardware, virtual systems and environments, system backup, applications, database and other server/application/database systems;

·         Have a minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Systems Administrator in an enterprise environment;

·         Have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience and be proficient in managing and maintaining the following;

o   Microsoft Windows server and workstation operating systems;

o   Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating systems;

o   Microsoft Active Directory services;

o   SQL Server;

o   Systems management with the use of scripting or other automated means;

·         Have excellent oral, written, documentation and presentation skills;

·         Have a proactive nature with ability to solve problems; and

·         Have excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.



Preferred Skills:

  • Agile experience is not required but is desirable.


Required Education/Certifications:

·         Have a Bachelor’s degree or combination of complementary education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities or equivalent experience in an Information Technology (IT) related field which applies to this position;

·         The ideal candidate should have one or more of the following certifications:

o   Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS).

o   Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE).

o   Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).

o   VMware Certified Professional (VCP).

o   CompTIA Server+ and A+.

  • Other vendor or vendor-neutral IT system certifications may be considered on a case by case basis
